Young Romance #154

Young Romance #154 (On Sale: April 9, 1968) has a cover that looks to me like it is inked by Dick Giordano. In fact, Dick has confirmed that he also penciled the cover, most likely from a layout by Joe Orlando. Speaking of new editor Joe Orlando, he has given the book a new logo.

We begin with "Love is What It's All About" drawn by Mike Sekowsky and Joe Orlando. That is followed by "The Flame of Love" drawn by John Forte and "I Know My Love" drawn by Mike Sekowsky and Bernard Sachs and reprinted from Falling In Love #49.

Edited by Joe Orlando.

nice looking cover, I would say that it's penciled by Giordano as well....

That was my thought as well, but I can not be sure. Rosenberger's pencils looked a lot like Giordano's and he did a lot of romance covers, so I just don't know for sure, but I would put money on the inks.

I actually wondered whether Neal Adams gave Giordano a big hand in drawing/inking this. The guy's face and clothing look so Adams.
First time I've seen this, so once again THANKS!

actually the man's clothes are classic Giordano. Just like the work he was doing in Charlton in the 1960s. I wonder if this might be part of giordano's influence on adams, rather than the other way around. Rosenberger pencil bodies in certain odd postures - turning of the body - that makes his work - even inked by colletta so easy to spot.

Well, I have found this cover attibuted on one site to Neal Adams, but I don't buy it. The official Neal Adams checklist says he never did anything for this title. Also, the checklist in "Dick Giordano, Changing Comics, One Day at a Time" does not list this book either, so go figure.

Hi Keller,
I agree that those two sources do not list this, but it's the first time **I've** seen this after 40 years of following Adams work, so I wonder if it's been missed. Adams' list came from a fan (Tom Clarke?)with whom I corresponded many moons ago so it's possible he missed it when handing the list to Neal. I've written to Jason(Neal's son) to see if he's curious enough to get dad to answer our conundrum.

I passed this cover by Dick Giordano today and got this very quick response...

"Definitely my inks ( as everyone seems to agree ) and I'm reasonably sure, my pencils... but I think Joey O. might have given me a layout to work from. The composition of the art doesn't look like mine and the slender girl isn't one of Giordano's typical babes.

Neal Adams had absolutely nothing to do with the cover.

Carry on!"

I eat humble pie and bow to your superior knowledge. You can't get a better authority than Dick on this matter.
Well done Keller
