Plastic Man #10

Plastic Man #10 (On Sale: March 21, 1968) has a cover by Jack Sparling, a new logo and a death sentence in this its last issue.

"The Terrible Plastic Twin" is by Arnold Drake and Jack Sparling (I don't know what the insides looked like, but Sparling did a bang-up job with Plas on that cover). When Gordy is injured in an explosion Plastic Man donates his blood for a life-saving transfusion. The blood saves Gordy, but also gives him Plastic Man's powers. Gordy then tries to become a super-hero and show Plas how to fight crime. Instead, Plastic Man has to work extra hard to protect Gordy from getting into trouble. After Plas defeats killer doll-maker Marcel Mannequin at Madame DeLute's high society party, Gordy realizes that Plastic Man's methods, though unconventional, are effective.

If this cover is pencilled by SPARLING, it looks like NEAL ADAMS inked it...
JACK SPARLING could sometimes turn out such hokey-looking work, & other times, produce something that surprises, making you do a double-take...
I have a Green Lantern Issue with a cover by him, signed, & on 1st look, I thought it was Neal Adams' work. But SPARLING's name is signed at the bottom, & surprised the heck outta me...
His 1950's/60's syndicated strip work(I forgot the title)is "Fantastic", but like FRANK ROBBINS, when certain guys had to go into "comic books" from a lucrative & hefty paying syndication/strip career, seems they just did it to get paid,...no enthusiastic joy in it,...& extremely less money involved.
The Green Lantern cover I am referring to, is the one where GL is being beat down by a few thugs, & his ring is flying off his finger towards the reader...Gorgeous work,...almost like he was impressed with newbie sensation, ADAMS, & was trying to emulate the style, either as an experiment, or to see if the style sold more copies...Who knows...

I'm not sure about the Adams inks. I'm trying to compare it to his work on Bob Hope, as that is sort of in the same style, but I'm just not sure it is a match. As for the Sparling Green Lantern, that is #62 as you can see here.

Had the coloring been better I think this issue would be better known.
