Teen Titans #24

Teen Titans #24 (On Sale: September 18, 1969) has a cool cover by Nick Cardy.

"Skis of Death" is by Bob Haney, Gil Kane and Nick Cardy. Kane and Cardy made a wonderful art team. The Titans (Robin, Wonder Girl, Kid Flash and Speedy) in civilian identities are enjoying the snow at Medicine Mountain, a new ski resort  owned by Native Americans and it is there that they meet Eddie Tallbow. Before hitting the slopes they stop bu Old Sourdough's cafe where Donna has to save some kids from a falling wagon wheel light. Dick explains away her super strength by saying Donna is a student of Zen.

Out on the slopes they run into Eddie Tallbow again, who is frantic over an entire ski class disappearing on the slopes. The Titans and Eddie head up to Golden Gulch Trail where the class disappears only to find the classes tracks end at a rock wall. They send Eddie to the other side of the rock while Wally checks to make sure the rock is actually solid, which it is. When Eddie gets back Donna notices that geysers are erupting all over the town  The helicopter they are riding in is hit by a geyser and Eddie is knocked unconscious. When he revives he finds the Teen Titans are in town, saying they were called by Dick and his friends. They find evidence of Charlie, the tribe medicine man near some vent holes that have been covered by an avalanche.

Kid Flash heads out on skies to find the medicine man who is using an electronic  vibration machine to break up the ice on a up-slope lake. The chunks of ice head down towards the village and Kid Flash uses friction heat to melt them in time to save the town from damage. Kid Flash is knocked out for his trouble. The other Titans are out looking for the missing ski class and Robin finds them in a supposed bear cave. While the kids are returned to town on a tractor, the Titans on skis are caught in an avalanche. Donna uses a bunch of left-over logs to create a fence, stopping the speeding snow.

Tracking the guys who caused the avalanche, the Titans are led to the house of Old Sourdough, who has Kid Flash on ice and is explaining to medicine man Charlie that with all the bad publicity, the resort will have to close and he will buy it and sell it to the government for a missile base. The Titans are captured but Kid Flash wakes up, vibrates out of his bonds and they lay into the men. Old Sourdough grabs Eddie and threatens to shoot him if the Titans don't give up. They are chloroformed and put into a bobsled and sent down a long ramp to their deaths, but Robin wakes up and manages to get Kid Flash awake as well, who saves the team from death.

The team returns to town in time to stop Old Sourdough and save the resort. This story was reprinted in DC Super Stars #1, Best of DC #18 and Showcase Presents: Teen Titans Vol. 2 TPB.
