Adventure Comics #386 (On Sale: September 30, 1969) has a Supergirl cover by Murphy Anderson.
"The Beast That Loved Supergirl" is by Cary Bates, Winslow Mortimer and Jack Abel and features Mr. Mxyzptlk. That should tell you all you need to know on this one; the return of the character that comes baggage free. He has no reason for what he does, he is just an asshole. That makes for boring, stupid stories. It was bad enough I had to read this one; I am not going to repeat the nonsense here.
The back-up is "The Godmother of Steel" by Robert Kanigher and Kurt Schaffenberger. This is a boring take on the Cinderella story, where Supergirl takes pity on fellow Stanhope student Cindy who has to deal with evil stepsisters. Since Cindy and Kara look alike (yeah, really Kanigher?), Supergirl sends Cindy off to a dude ranch party where she meets Eric Prince, and takes her place at home, making the lives of the step-sisters a living hell (much like Kanigher's trite plot made my childhood). The step-sisters throw her out of the house and Supergirl makes sure that Cindy gets her Prince. Ugh.
Thankfully, these stories have never been reprinted.
