Metal Men #41

Metal Men #41 (On Sale: October 16, 1969) has a cover by Mike Sekowsky and George Roussos.

"Requiem for a Robot" is written and penciled by Mike Sekowsky and inked by George Roussos.

Last issue Conan convinced the Metal Men that Doc Magnus has been turned evil by Karnak and they head to Karnia to kill Doc. They were able to destroy Karnak's weapons, but Tina was hurt in the process. This time out they fly Tina to Conan's compound where she is put back together. Against the objections of the other Metal Men, Conan uses Tina a bait to get Doc to show up. Lt. McDonald shows up with flowers for Tina. Conan calls the group together and lets them know that Doc did not fall for the bait and has stolen a Hydrogen bomb and disappeared.

Doc threatens to blow up an American city if he is not given 10 billion dollars. After locating Doc, the Metal Men are sent in a back way to once again get him. However, he is ready for them and they have to escape a number of traps along the way, in one Iron has to cut off his own hand to escape. Eventually they reach the top of the mountain they think Doc is on, only to find it empty. Just then a trap door opens and they Metal Men are captured by Doc.

Iron goes after Doc and loses a leg and an arm in the process, but gets to Doc only to discover that he is a robot. The Doc bot explains that he now knows the Metal Men's weakness, they are turning human and have developed emotions. Not finding Doc the Metal Men get Iron off the mountain and back to Conan who fixes his body up and informs them that Tina has responded to treatment and is good as new. They go to her room to see her just as Lt McDonald is leaving, but not before he gives Tina an engagement ring.

This is the last issue of Metal Men for three years when they will return in reprints. In seven years they would return in new stories by Steve Gerber and Walt Simonson.

Edited by Mike Sekowsky.
